How to write
great copy?
Every copywriter’s end goal is to get a reaction from the reader, whether that means maintaining their attention, clicking or buying your product.

Let’s start with the basics. A copywriter is a writer of selling texts, as opposed to a content writer, who can be described as a blogger, journalist, or writer of “longer” texts that are richer in content, but not necessarily aimed at selling.

Copywriter – ‘a psychologist’ with writing skills

Why ‘a psychologist’? Because a copywriter must understand and identify with the audience he or she is writing for.

A copywriter writes selling texts mostly used in marketing and advertising. Those texts are most often short and include slogans, jingle texts, ads, newsletters, billboards, flyers, TV and radio commercials, catalogues and so on.

What is the goal of good copy?

Every copywriter’s end goal is to get a reaction from the reader, whether that means maintaining their attention, clicking or buying your product. The main purpose of the texts is to show the audience that you have exactly what they need.

How to start?

After getting to know the subject matter and your client’s wishes and after analyzing the target audience, a copywriter starts with brainstorming. It is important to think about the advantages of the product or service you are trying to promote. If a certain cleaning agent destroys 100% instead of 99,99% of bacteria, it is important to emphasize that fact. The buyer would like to know why the product you are writing about is the best.

What is the basis of good copy?

Good copy cannot be written at once; writing copy is a process based on brainstorming. It is advised to write down anything that comes to mind about the given topic, which does not need to be (and usually it is not) good or of high quality. Putting words down will help you to ignite creativity and to combine seemingly irrelevant words and phrases to create an effective copy.

Take the road less traveled

As time passes and you write more and more texts, you will gain experience and start to understand your audience better, which will make the process of writing easier. So keep your head high and start writing!
